When your child is turning a year older, the chances are good that you are planning a party in your home in honor of the event. There are a few things to keep in mind when planning the party that will go far in making it a bash to be remembered.

First of all, you need to send out some cute invitations that children will like. Try to choose colorful invitations that feature something popular that the kids are into like a favorite movie or cartoon character. Be sure to send the invitations out at least three weeks prior to the date of the party so that everyone has plenty of time to plan.

When it comes time to shop for decorations be sure not to forget the little things. Besides balloons, confetti and streamers you also might want to consider looking at birthday cake toppers and table decorations as well. Most greeting card and specialty gift stores sell cake toppers for kids so with any luck you will find something that will match the cake nicely.

Another thing not to forget are novelty hats. The kids coming to the party will love to wear hats and you can find plastic fireman hats, cowboy hats and even hats shaped like footballs if you shop online. Last but not least, consider picking up some inexpensive party favors for the kids who come to the party so that everyone has something to take home with them.
